About this event

Thank you for your interest in participating in research to help improve outcomes for people with dementia who go missing.

People with dementia are at greater risk of getting lost and experiencing devastating outcomes as a result. Confusion about how to report a missing person with dementia to police could delay search efforts which can increase the risk of adverse outcomes.

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is leading research to help address this. We are looking for people to participate in an online public consultation forum. Before attending this online forum, you will complete five short online learning modules to provide you with baseline knowledge related to the topic of interest. You will then join your chosen public consultation group to discuss strategies to develop national recommendations for reporting a missing person with dementia in Australia. This research is being funded by the Dementia Australia Research Foundation (DARF).

To participate you are agreeing to:

  1. Complete 5 x 15-minute online education modules at your convenience anytime before the forum (75 minutes in total)
  2. Join the audio recorded online forum on either Tuesday 24 November OR Tuesday 1 December and attend both the morning (10-11:30am Brisbane time) and afternoon (1-2:30pm Brisbane time) sessions (3 hours in total)
  3. Complete an online survey in the weeks after the forum (approx 30 minutes)

To register click on the orange Select A Date box on the right. You will then be prompted to choose your preferred date, select your role from the list of ticket types (i.e. professional carer, family carer, emergency services employee or member of the general public) and answer the registration questions. Once you have registered we will email you the link to the online learning.

For further information refer to the participant information sheet you should have received as part of your invitation to participate, visit the Getting Home Safely with Dementia website, or email catherine.wyles@qut.edu.au
